Shiver A Bentz/Montoya Novel Lisa Jackson Books

I think this will be the last of the Bentz/Montoya series that I read. I am so upset with how unoriginal this series is. As an individual book it is good. But as part of the series? Awful. Every book is too similar. Something to do with the university, something to do with the church, something to do with an adopted child no one knew about, don't forget adding in the radio station in every book, oh and then a woman who doesn't want to be considered weak that is falling in love with someone they don't think they should be. All three books....same things. Surely with New Orleans as a background a much more interesting series of events could have taken place. Buying more than one book in this series is a complete waste.

Shiver A Bentz/Montoya Novel Lisa Jackson Books Reviews

If you like mystery romances, then read this series. Lisa Jackson is great with intrigue, complexity and emotions....her characters are believable and the main characters are likeable. I enjoy underwriting great deal. Her storylines are capturing.
I really enjoy the Bentz/Montoya characters. The story has lots of twists and turns and really has one shaking their head. Totally recommend reading the series, starting with book 1.
The book was ok - kept my interest but not the best suspense read. I felt the author made it obvious who the killer was way before the ending. What I did not like is at the end it was revealed that the mother who was murdered had a third child. OK so what about this child- what happened to it and who was this child? The book just ends with this fact- left you guessing or saying to yourself -did this fact need to be said? Why? I found that weird!
This story has it all. A great story line with plenty of twists and turns, characters that soon seem like old friends, suspense, and never ending questions like who did what and why. My only criticism is the authors almost annoying use of the word "gold". I actually kept tract from chapter 6 on, and counted the word used about 20 times. I really did tire reading about golden eyes. I will read more from this author but hope she change as the eye color of her characters. This one will keep you up nights.
I am not able to finish this book. There are too many inconsistencies. This book is # 3 in Bentz/Montoya series but there is a big time gap between Cold Blooded (book 2) and this one and it's not clear hiw much time had passed. Bentz's daughter Kristi was 18 in book 2, but she is almost 25 in book 3. Bentz and Olivia just started dating in book 2 and they've been married for 5 years in this one. Now, in the second book Montoya mentioned his GF and she went missing. In this book the author keeps referring to Montoya's GF Martha who was killed 2 years ago. Was she missing for 5 years?
Also I agree with other readers that this book is too slow.
This was my first Lisa Jackson book and I will definately read more by her. Except for the madcap driving of Detective Montoya I thought most of the scenes and people seemed realistic. I enjoyed the relationship development between Montoya and Abby Chastain. Unlike some books where the main characters get the hots for each other immediately, this one started out slow, with each noticing that the other was attractive, some thinking about the other and then a relationship developing. There is a sequel here which I am going to order. This book kept my interest and had no real long boring sections. It was also easy to follow with well developed characters you could actually care about and/or detest. The bad guy was not a complete surprise but then again I don't care for stories where it is absolutely impossible to guess the killer because nothing in the book points to or even mentions the killer in any significant way. I was close to calling this a 5 star work, but in truth it wasn't a book that I couldn't put down. It was good and I would recommend it. I hope the next Lisa Jackson book is as good as this one.
The basic story is a good one. What dropped the rating to 3 for me was a couple of things. One was the main character's constant self talk. I found it to be wearing after a while. Another was the extra pages the self talk generated that was not necessary. Last, her love scene was a little more detailed than necessary. Good book but needed to be pared down a bit.
