I have been interested in a series of books that I heard about called The Unchartered Series for a while now. It is about a hidden, mysterious land that seems to be untouched by modern times. I have not read that series yet, but I soon hope to do so. I was very excited to see that the author wrote a prequel to those stories. I decided to start with this book first and I was not disappointed. What I liked about this novel is that it is a historical novel, taking place right before the American Civil War. It is about a peaceful group of 8 families that do not wish to be embroiled in the coming war. Because of this they decide to leave and head to South America to start a new civilization on one of the islands there. What they are not prepared for is to become lost at sea and end up nowhere near their destination. Instead it appears that they have discovered a new land.

I would divide this book into three parts. The first part is when they are still in the USA preparing to go; the middle part takes place on the ship, the Providence itself; and the third part is when they reach the land and start seeing and experiencing some of its dangers and mysteriousness. Through it all we have the ongoing struggle of young medical student Jonah Ashton, who does not even want to be going but cannot bear to disappoint his family, especially his father. However, burdened by his family’s needs, being pulled to his unfinished business in college, and his growing admiration and love for Miriam, who is going on this voyage, Jonah has become a restless soul. He is bound and determined to see his family to safety and then return to the USA and finish his business there. As the book suggests, providence may just have something else in store.

I enjoyed this prequel to this intriguing series and I look forward to reading it soon. So if you like historical fiction, ship board adventures laced with romance and touched with a bit of fantasy, I highly recommend this read.

While God and faith are mentioned in this tale, it does not seem to have a truly Christian perspective. The very long, strange voyage made most of the story too dark for my taste.
This is a fictional story set in the late 1800s. Jonah is just shy of graduating with his MD degree when his father calls him home. Marian wants to be a botanist. They set sail for the new land in South America only the compass is broken and clouds prevent them from charting the stars. The boat runs aground and they start about setting up their little community.
I loved all the “Uncharted Beginnings” books. They are clean and they have some mystery to them. The storyline is one I haven’t seen in previous books I have read. Great read!
This book is like taking a journey with a group of people wanting a better life. I will admit it seemed a little slowish at the beginning -but I am so glad I continued reading it. The extra long ship travel, taking them to a land far from where they had planned. A young man who never wanted to go, feels he should get his diploma to be a doctor, plus he had just been warned that he would be questioned about an incident at the hospital he worked at. But other things are also happening. And now their lives will begin. And the book ends at a good place.
I liked this book, it had a very interesting concept and I think it was well executed, and it definitely take a good imagination to come up with an idea like the one in Aboard Providence. At first it was a slow start for about the first 50 pages, but once the plot picked up there were a few good twists and turns.

I liked getting to know all the characters in this novel, however I found Jonah to be annoying, he was selfish and only seemed to care about his future and needs than those of others once they get to the Land. But I did like how Jonah started to change his mind. I liked how Marian was more level-headed and in my honest opinion I believe that she deserves someone better than Jonah. The side characters in this novel were interesting, but I wish we could have found out more about them.

I enjoyed finding out more about the Land - however I wish there had been more descriptions about the new island besides the gray-leafed tree. I felt like the world-building was lacking and could have been developed some more. I thought the ending was very sweet and I was happy.

This book was a prequel to the author's Uncharted series which is also supposed to be good. I don't know if I will read the rest of the series but this was a good introduction to Keely Brooke Keith.

I am giving this book 3/5 Stars because even though I enjoyed it I wish the world-building had been fleshed out a bit more.
I enjoyed this novel by Keely Brooke Keith, a new-to-me author. I was intrigued by the story line and the beautiful cover. Marian Foster is very excited by the Elders of the church's plan to start a new colony off the coast of Brazil. Marian has an interest in Botany and is looking forward to discovering new plants and trees to study.

Jonah Ashton does not want to return home before completing Medical school in Pennsylvania. He does not want to leave America, but when his father sends an urgent message to him to return home, he must do so. However, he leaves behind his college career and accusations that he assaulted a female patient. Jonah plans to tell his father he was not going on the journey with him and 8 other families from his church and then return to Pennsylvania to finish his medical degree and clear his good name. Unfortunately, it doesn't turn out that way.

Jonah's father falls from the hay loft in the barn and breaks his leg. To help out, Jonah agrees to go on the voyage with everyone to be the doctor and take care of his father, who is also a doctor. And so the journey to a new land begins for Jonah and Marian when they discover they are beginning to have feelings for each other. Will they reveal their feeling to each other? Will the family find their new colony? Read and find out. This is a very well told story and I recommend it to all who enjoy a clean historical romance. Enjoy!
