With dogs it's all about love!! The series of three movies and books about the McCray family touches your heart. They make you laugh and they make you cry. The only thing I wasn't really happy with was the second book. A Dog Named Christmas. The book had Christmas as a black lab and the movie had him as a golden retriever. But Christmas with Tucker is so wonderful. Greg Kincaid is a master of description. He makes you feel as if you are there in the moment. I try to read the books before I see the movie in
cases like this. That way when you see the movies you have more information and a mental picture of the places and people. Little things can be omitted in the movie. I suggest your read then watch. I still haven't found the dvd for Christmas with Tucker. A wonderful dog longing for a family meets an extraordinary boy who loves him with all of his heart. There is no downside to this book if you love a good family story with the bonus of a great dog. I heartily recommend all of these books, the last being A Christmas Home. Buy the books and watch the movies. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Christmas With Tucker Center Point Christian Fiction Large Print Greg Kincaid 9781602859265 Books Reviews

I purchased this due to the Christmas movie that I had seen. The book is great. The front cover of the book is just perfect. Thank-you.
Loved everything about this book. The author tell the best story.
I gave the book to friends that had to put their dog named Tucker to sleep! Was looking for the DVD, but have found it since
Loved this story! I disagree with those that say George's grandparents considered him "free labor" and that George was "selfish". Considering the disrespectful, irresponsible kids of today, this boy took on a lot after losing his father and his mother and sisters moving several states away. George's grandparents remind me of the type of grandparents/parents I grew up with - guidance and love without telling him what to do or doing it for him - the parents of today could learn a lot from them. Others have written about the gist of the book, so I won't go into that again. I do feel that Tucker (the dog) plays a big role in this book and it is a wonderful "prequel" to A Dog Named Christmas that helps explain George's feelings about his son getting a dog later in life.
Having watched the movie, A Dog Named Christmas, I knew I had to read this book. Thirteen year old George, having lost his father to a farming accident, decides to stay on the family farm in Kansas with his Grandparents, while his Mother and sisters move to Minnesota. George learns how to milk cows the old fashioned way, by hand when they are without power. He learns all about how farming and life was in the early 60's, definitely not what we are used to now. When the first Christmas comes after his Father's death, his Mother and sisters arrive, not just to celebrate the holiday but to take George back to Minnesota as planned. Plans and wants, needs, etc. can change and George's have. Read this wonderful story and meet George's friend Tucker, neighbors and others from this close-knit community. I guarantee you'll enjoy it as much as I did.
Engaging, earnest, realistic, heart rending and tender. A Christmas With Tucker is the "prequel" to the book A Dog Named Christmas by Kincaid, and lives up to the simple, plain spoken honesty of the 2008 book. Both books can stand alone, but A Christmas With Tucker will help answer some questions people may have had about the behavior of the father in the Dog Named Christmas story. I know that I found myself rather impatient with the man, and often wanted to give him a good shake! Reading A Christmas With Tucker helps explain why George was the way he was, later in life, and nicely rounded out the character in a way that made him more sympathetic. This is a story about George's childhood during a period of time in his life when tragedy and circumstance collide in a way that the boy must grapple with and deal many confusing issues and responsibilities. However, this is not a "grim" tale, nor is it sappy. It's life affirming and resonates with truth and insight. Told in the voice of a 13 year old boy, it touches many moral and ethical issues that will make one think. This is a wonderful story about a boy and a dog, a family, a community, and the realities of farm life. It's one that should be a Holiday classic yet can be enjoyed any time of the year by young and old alike.
