This manga is just so beautiful. The cover is even shiny, and it's just so appealing to the eye. And all the colour pages inside ... it's simply amazing. Yes, the author has a somewhat smaller than usual fanbase, but that's mostly because her works are centered more on thought and contemplation than action, romance, and all that. Though the drama element's definitely there!Apart from the sheer beauty of the work, the storyline is just as amazing. You have Ganymede, and you can seriously feel just how trapped he is, and how much he wants to get out - and then lengths he would go to, to do so. But you can also feel and see the underlying messages - in the cryptic words of Hades, the quiet majesty of Zeus, and the playful, sadistic honesty of Apollo. And of course Ganymede, trapped between them all, is the most fascinating of all - he was so innocent before he was taken, and the years since have changed him oh-so-much. The idea and problems of immortality are explored in great detail through all the characters. Self - and not-self - along with the subjectivity of beauty and the status of mortals in relation to immortals - is explored through Apollo, Artemis, and a female sacrifice. Poseidon proves that idiocy is not just limited to humans, while Hades ... well, he explores way too many things to just sprout randomly on and on about.
Overall? The art is beautiful, the plot may be simplistic but certainly not lacking, while the concepts explored are rich in possibility and leave you very contemplative at the end. Though - if you're a fan of true Greek Mythology, beware that most elements do not adhere to the actual tales - and that in this, most other important gods and goddesses do not exist.

Olympos Aki 9780316209502 Books Reviews
Has very languid bits, and just when you think you're going to get some god on mortal action, lo, it turns into a discussion about the finer points of identity, relation and existence. Apollo, Hades and Ganyemede are portrayed VERY prettily by manga-ka Aki, though I am definitely not complaining about that. The artwork is sterling! Overall, I enjoyed it, though I might not recommend it to otaku who don't also appreciate theatre, the Icelandic Sagas or 'indie films' (of 90's sensibility). Not being snobby!
This is a kind of manga that serves a bit of a different purpose than story-telling, the art is pretty good in some areas, fantastic in others, if I graded this manga on art alone, I'd probably give it a 4.5/5, Aki is a greatly talented artist when it comes to bringing out the beauty in male characters. This manga is beautiful looking, and if you are looking for a book to serve as eye candy for a decently sized single volume, Olympos does just that...but basically does ONLY that, the story itself is pretty lackluster, and should not be bought with the expectation of a adequate character developing plot. Aki's storytelling really leaves more to be desired for someone wishing to read this for the plot, and by the end, mostly none of the characters change in mannerisms or really even stray from their introduction personalities, which kind of sets an unrealistic pace for the story...then again, these are GODS after all, so perhaps it's all relative. Regardless, this is an interesting take on Greek mythology, and is unique in the aspect of the experience being different across readers, and should be commended for such despite its shortcomings in the plot.
I honestly think Olympos should be in any manga lover's collection.
I love all kinds of different genres of manga, mainly Shounen. When I saw this at the bookstore I was first drawn in by the attractive artwork, but when flipping through a few pages I wasn't really 'hooked' because although the artwork is stunning the story at a glance didn't seem interesting. When I flipped it over and saw the price tag I put it back on the shelf, not worth it. Later when I saw it on for a cheaper price I decided maybe it would be nice to have, even if I only liked the art and not the story. Boy was I wrong.
I am not going to summarize it because I feel like it would be quite hard to do so without sounding boring. I usually pick up books because of recommendation, not by reading a summary. If someone likes it so much as to tell me to read it I'll give it a try for sure! So that's what I'm telling you! Read this manga! I love how deep this story is, it really draws you in because you get really in touch with these characters. Although this manga is short it will always be in mind, when it ends [terribly soon] you will be left thinking real hard. I hope you'll give it a shot, it's definitely a manga that gets those cogs in your head turning.
The art and story are both great.
Amazing story and very interesting. The ending was mind blown and confusing I have to reread to understand the concept once more since me and my friends argue the point of the book. I love it.
This is definitely different from the usual manga and I liked most of it however I felt like it was too small in scope. The characters are okay, with hades being a very wise yet dark character, and the author makes it feel like they are supposed to be together which I liked. But it feels like their should be more and I do hope theirs a sequel in the future.
Gorgeous art and unique story, I've read this several times and bought a copy for a friend -- It's worth every penny! Great stand-alone story for manga lovers who don't want to invest in a full series of books without sacrificing decent storylines and artwork. I would recommend this for sure!
